The Cooling Power of Pigeon Legs
نویسندگان
چکیده
The rate of heat loss from legs and feet (HLEG) w a s studied in resting pigeons preheated to a body temperature (43-l°C) close to those recorded during flight. The experimental system was designed to allow the calculation of HLEG from whole-body cooling rates following exposure of the legs and feet to various combinations of wind speed (0-75 km h") and air temperature (5-25 °C). The pigeons remained hyperthermic when their hindlimbs were kept insulated, but their bodies cooled markedly as a result of exposure of the legs and feet. With a 12-5kmh~ wind at 25°C, HLE G corresponded to 240% of the resting heat production. HLEG w a s increased by higher wind speed and lower air temperature, but it became essentially independent of wind speed above 37-5 km h~'. The maximum values of HL E G were 4—6 times as large as the resting heat production and could account for 50-65 % of the total heat produced during flight. It is concluded that in a non-aquatic bird the legs and feet can play a major role in whole-body thermoregulation, both at rest and during flight.

Technical-economic analysis of the combined system power generation, production of fresh water and cooling production
In gas power plants, a lot of energy is lost in the form of heat more than the electricity produced. In the present research, techno-economic evaluation of combined power, desalination and cooling systems running by the exhaust flue gases of a gas turbine in Iran is performed. In addition to using power generated by the gas turbine, attempts were made to use Organic Rankine Cycle to recover the...

Introduction: One way to reduce the level of heat strain is to use personal evaporative cooling coats. such as the wrist, ankle, head and neck. The purpose of this study is to design, construct, and determine the cooling power of local cooling coatings and evaluate their efficiency in improving perceptual indicators in the laboratory. Materials and Methods: Initially, the design and constructio...

Gas turbines play an important role in supplying power for the country especially in peak electricity load. The main disadvantages are the turbines, they produce large changes are a result of climate change. However, in times of peak electricity grid and at the same time warm months, can produce gas turbines under the effect of ambient temperature, the amount of reduced considerably. The method...

This study presents a theoretical analysis of a new combined cooling, heating, and power cycle by the novel integration of an organic Rankine cycle (ORC), an ejector refrigeration cycle (ERC), and a heat pump cycle (HPC) for producing cooling output, heating output, and power output simultaneously. Three different working fluids—namely R113, isobutane, and R141b—have been used in power, ref...
متن کاملEffect of Wind on Thermal Performance of Heller Dry Cooling Tower
In a steam power plant, the temperature of the cooling water leaving the condenser for recyclingshould decrease. This is achieved in a cooling tower. The Heller cooling tower does not require waterfor operation, thus, it is a suitable system for use in thermal power plants throughout Iran. Wind is anenvironmental factor that unfavorably affects the performance of a cooling tower. Previous studi...
